Becoming involved in your church! There are many opportunities for involvement and ways you can share your time and talents with your parish.
Eucharistic Ministry
The ordinary ministers of the Eucharist are bishops, priests, and deacons. If lay ministers are to be employed (EMHC = Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion), they are invited by the pastor for training and commissioning. (NOTE: EMHC are only commissioned for the parish in which they are registered and trained. They are not universal ministers to any parish).
St. Patrick Music Ministry
St. Patrick's choir began in 1976 as the Young Adult Choir and has evolved into a 27 member choir with men and women of all ages involved. The ministry provides music for both Saturday and Sunday through cantor and accompanist and full choir with accompianist. The choir typically practices twice a month on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:30pm during the school year with special practices for funerals. New members are welcome to join and may inquire with Ann Slattery about 319-290-1178 or Janet Fangman at 319-241-3738 for more information. St. Patrick is seeking paid accompanist, but also cantors for masses that may not have chior involvement. Instrumentalists of any kind are also welcome.
We welcome new members and anyone interested in checking us out can call Ann Slattery at 319-290-1178 or Janet Fangman at 319-241-3738, or talk to a choir member to find out when the next practice is. If you like to sing and have a nice voice, even if you don’t read music, consider joining us! We are not professionals. We enjoy the camaraderie and friendship and have a good time.
Bereavement Card Ministry
Purpose: To provide ministry to those who are suffering because of the death of someone they love through cards conveying the parish’s sympathy.
Through the ministry of pastoral care, the church expresses comfort to those who grieve. It is a mandate of our faith to connect and to comfort others in their grief.
Matthew 5: 4
“Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Jesus also comforted Martha and Mary in their distress at the death of their brother Lazarus. Please read John 11:17-36
This committee provides support and outreach during the first year following the death of a loved one.
